Short Biography:

Dr. Zhang is the Steering Committees Chair of APSCC2006.He is a Research Staff Member and the founding chair of Services Computing PIC (Professional Interest Community) at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. In the latest 14 years, as the lead researcher and poineer of Web services, e-commerce solutions and information technology, he initialized and led cutting edge projects in the field of Web Services, Business Process Integration and Collaboration for Extended Businesses, Business Grid Solutions, Web Services Hub Framework for B2B Integration, E-Commerce Solutions for Interactive Digital TV and Streaming Media, Internet Communications, Computational Intelligence, ATM Network Control, and Intelligent Information Appliances and Signal Processing.
 
Dr. Zhang has 25 issued patents in lots of countries. Meanwhile, he has other more than 30 patent applications in the areas of e-commerce, Web services, rich media, data management, and information appliances. And he has published more than 80 technical papers in the Journals, Books and Conference Proceedings. He was presented with the "Best Paper Award" of The International Conference on Neural Networks and Signal Processing in 1995 and the IBM "Outstanding Technical Achievement Award" for HotMedia Architecture in 1999. IBM HotMedia was awarded the CNET/PC Expo's "Best of Show Software Award" in 2000. He received IBM Seventh Plateau Creative Contribution Award in 2003. He was also presented with “The Who's Who New Century Medal” in 2000. He was presented with “The Outstanding Achievement Award” by the World Academy of Sciences in 2003 for his research contribution to the field of Web services and to the 2003 International Conference on Web Services (ICWS’03).

Dr. Zhang is the Chair of IEEE Computer Society's Technical Steering Committee (a.k.a. Technical Community) for Services Computing (TSC-SC), Vice Chair of Communications for IEEE Computer Society's Task Force on E-Commerce. He is the General Chair of the 2004 IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2004) and General Co-chair of the 2004 IEEE International Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2004) and the 2004 IEEE Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC 2004).
