Realizing that overseas students may have problems in basic knowledge of Chinese for degree studies, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer courses, etc. School of International Education offers foundation courses to the international students who apply for undergraduate, master degree and doctoral degree programs with little knowledge or no experience on the Chinese language. After one semester or one year of study in the foundation program, the students who pass all the tests, including HSK (Chinese Level Test), can directly go to degree studies. The foundation courses include Chinese language and some compulsory courses for degree studies which will enable students to save both time and money and directly move into Degree Studies.

Guangzhou is both a Historical and Cosmopolitan City
SCUT is situated in a city with over 2,210 years' history, which is the capital of Guangdong province, and a major city in South China for business and tourism. In ancient times, Guangzhou was the "Silk Road of the Ocean", being an important merchant harbor for China's silk trade to the West. Numerous ancient remains are dotted around the old urban area. Furthermore, Guangzhou is also the first city of China open to the world. The Chinese Export Commodity Fair is held in Guangzhou in Spring and Autumn every year. Through the Trade Fair you can gain much knowledge of China's fast developing manufacturing and service sectors. Guangzhou is a friendly and comfortable place in which you can enjoy its rich culture and prosperity.
