Guangzhou enjoys a mild sub-tropical climate with plentiful rainfall all the year around. The annual average temperature is between 20¡æ and 22¡æ. Summer is usually longer while the cold season is shorter. The region is famous for its rich variety of fruits growing, such as Litchi and Longan etc. Guangzhou is known nationally as the ¡°Hometown of Fruit¡±. Luxuriant vegetation and sub-tropical flowers cover a large part of the city all year round. Canton Tastes are one of the four major food styles of China. ¡°Eating in Guangzhou¡± is another famous compliment for the city's reputation. The city of Guangzhou has much to offer and is an ideal place for study, work and habitation.

Be adjacent to Hong Kong and Macau
Guangzhou enjoys convenient transportation to Hong Kong and Macau. The East Railway Station provides a direct train to Hong Kong and is only 10 minutes ride away from SCUT. If you study at SCUT, traveling to Hong Kong is very convenient.

Learn Native Cantonese
Guangzhou is the birthplace of Cantonese. If you study at SCUT, you can learn not only the Standard Chinese (Mandarin) but also native Cantonese, which is one of the official languages of Hong Kong and Macau as well. The language is also very popular in ¡°China Towns¡± of many western countries. With a good command of Cantonese, you will find it easier to communicate with Chinese people around the world. More importantly, you will have a greater understanding of Cantonese music, theatre, movies and Chinese culture in general.
