The Key Lab for Special Functional Materials of Ministry of Education


1 Profile of the lab
Founded in 2003 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the lab mainly conducts basic researches on the special functional materials in photo-electricity, electronics, information, biology etc. It is composed of a number of labs of high level and one material research and test platform, with the main research directions towards optical polymeric materials and devices, informative electronic materials and devices, biomedical functional materials, functional architectural materials, and nano technology etc. There are currently 62 staff members, including 2 academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences, 20 professors, 8 new century talents of the Ministry of Education, and 1 Pearl River Scholar.
2 Typical achievements
1)      Inkjet printing polymeric light-emitting display screen: the lab takes the lead domestically in designing and making polymeric light-emitting materials for picture illustration. It adopts innovative inkjet printing technology and succeeds in developing full-color polymeric light-emitting dot matrix display screen.


2)      Biological response bionic tissue prosthesis: the lab takes the lead internationally in putting forward biological response theory and succeeds in developing a series of products in biological response bionic human tissue prostheses.


3)      Target imaging and identifying optical fiber image conducting array: the lab independently developed multi-typed rare earth intermingled with glass optical fiber and optical fiber devices which has significant and widespread application prospect in the fields of integrated optical communications, laser radar, and optical fiber sensor technique etc.


4)      Environment-friendly ecological architectural materials: the environment-friendly ecological concrete, which is well-drained, well-ventilating and sound-absorbing, can be used for adjusting the temperature humidity of the city and decreasing the "Heat Island Effect."  Energy-saving and environmental-protecting light weight aggregate concrete, whose thermal inertia index is apparently superior to the common maintenance structure materials, gets the white trash in the city reasonable utilization.
