Job Description

South China University of Technology (SCUT) has fully implemented a tenure-track faculty appointment system for teaching and research positions. The system comprises both Tenure-Track and Tenured Track, including Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track Associate Professor, Tenure-Track Professor, Tenured Associate Professor, and Tenured Professor. As the cornerstone of the University’s drive towards world-class education and scientific research, faculty members in this track undertake both teaching and research responsibilities. These positions are available across all schools and departments.

Job Requirements

Professor (Tenured)

The candidates are expected to:

  • Hold a doctoral degree.

  • For overseas candidates: hold a position at the level of Associate Professor or above at a reputable overseas university ,or an equivalent position at an internationally recognized enterprise or  institution.

  • For domestic candidates: hold a full senior professional title.

  • Have conducted original or key technological research in their field and achieved high-impact outcomes; or have made noteworthy contributions in supporting China’s national strategic initiatives and socio-economic development.

Associate Professor (Tenured)

The candidates are expected to:

  • Hold a doctoral degree.

  • For overseas candidates: hold a position at the level of Assistant Professor or above at a leading overseas university or college, or an equivalent position at an internationally renowned enterprise or institute.

  • For domestic candidates: hold a senior professional title. Outstanding young talents with exceptional academic achievements are also strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Have achieved significant and high-impact outcomes in their field and demonstrate clear potential to become leading leaders in their respective areas.

Professor (Tenure Track)

The candidates are expected to:

  • Hold a doctoral degree.

  • For overseas candidates: have a minimum of three years of postdoctoral research experience and a demonstrable record of significant academic achievements. 

  • For domestic candidates: possess a senior professional title.

  • Be capable of establishing an independent research program, demonstrate innovative capabilities and high academic potential, and possess a track record of high-impact outcomes recognized by peers both domestically and internationally.

Associate Professor (Tenure Track)

The candidates are expected to:

  • Hold a doctoral degree.

  • Generally possess at least two years of postdoctoral research experience at a university/college, research institute, or enterprise, either domestically or internationally.

  • Demonstrate innovative research concepts and a well-defined research agenda;exhibit the ability to conduct independent research, possess strong academic potential, and have a solid research foundation.

Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)

The candidates are expected to:

  • Basically hold a doctoral degree with postdoctoral research experience.

  • Demonstrate innovative research concepts, a clear research direction, strong potential for academic development, and a solid research foundation.

Remunerations and Benefits

1. Competitive Compensation Package

  • SCUT offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with positions at world-class universities. For distinguished scholars or exceptional young talents with outstanding achievements, remuneration is negotiable on a case-by-case basis.

  • A settling-in allowance will be provided. On-campus faculty housing may be available subject to availability.

  • Tenure-Track Associate Professors enjoy benefits at the associate senior professional level; Tenure-Track Professors and above enjoy benefits at the full senior professional level. Benefits include social insurance, housing provident fund, healthcare, and other standard welfare entitlements.

2. Research Support 

  • Tenure-Track Associate Professors are appointed with the academic title of Associate Professor and are eligible to supervise Master’s and Doctoral students. SCUT guarantees annual enrollment quotas for graduate students and provides full support for independent research.

  • Tenure-Track Professors (and above) are appointed with the academic title of Professor and are eligible to supervise PhD students. The university guarantees annual enrollment quotas for graduate students, supports the recruitment of postdoctoral fellows, and facilitates the establishment of independent research teams.

  • Excellent research facilities and generous start-up funding are provided.

  • Mentorship from renowned experts is available to assist in applying for national, provincial, and municipal research grants.

3. Family Support  

  • Children of faculty members are entitled to priority admission to the affiliated kindergarten and secondary school of SCUT.

4. Exclusive Greater Bay Area Benefits 

  • Eligible talents benefit from the Individual Income Tax (IIT) preferential policy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The portion of paid IIT exceeding 15% of taxable income will be subsidized by the government, and this subsidy is tax-exempt.

  • Successful candidates will be issued the Guangdong Provincial Talent (You Yue Card). This card provides a “one-stop” online service for 14 administrative procedures, including household registration, children's schooling, and social insurance. Holders also enjoy VIP/priority access to services such as immigration, healthcare, transportation, banking, and children’s education.

  • Faculty recruited for the Guangzhou International Campus may also apply for additional benefits designated for high-level talents in Guangzhou.
