The Research-Track Professor Program is an integral part of the University’s academic workforce. These are professional technical positions dedicated primarily to basic research, applied research, and engineering technology research. The hierarchy includes three ranks: Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, and Research Professor. These positions are primarily established within teams leading major national or regional research projects, groups led by distinguished high-level talents, and other outstanding research and innovation teams. Major research platforms, such as national key laboratories, national engineering research centers, and high-level research institutes, may also recruit for these positions based on operational needs.
The candidates are expected to:
Hold a doctorate or the terminal degree in their field.
Generally hold a full senior professional title (e.g., Full Professor, Senior Research Fellow) or an equivalent position at a renowned university, research institution, or enterprise, either domestically or internationally.
Focus on the frontiers of international academia, conducting original research or developing key technologies in their field, and have achieved significant landmark research results; or have made substantial contributions to major national or regional strategic needs and socio-economic development.
The candidates are expected to:
Hold a doctorate or the terminal degree in their field.
Generally have a minimum of two years of post-doctoral research experience at renowned universities, research institutions, or enterprises, either domestically or internationally.
Target international academic frontiers and major national or regional strategic needs. Candidates should conduct innovative research or master core technologies within the discipline, demonstrate strong potential for professional development, and have achieved high-level, peer-recognized research results within the past five years.
The candidates are expected to:
Hold a doctorate or the terminal degree in their field.
Generally possess prior research experience at renowned universities, research institutes, or enterprises, either in China or abroad.
Demonstrate the ability to keep pace with the latest domestic and international developments in their field, establish a clear research focus, and conduct innovative work or master critical practical skills. Furthermore, the candidate should exhibit significant potential for professional development and present a record of peer-recognized research achievements obtained within the past five years.
SCUT offers a comprehensive compensation package for research-track faculty members, which includes a competitive salary, support for children’s education, and access to on-campus rental housing.
In addition to the university-provided package, the hosting research team or platform may grant further performance-based bonuses or incentives. These are determined by the individual’s academic achievements and annual performance evaluation results.
Appointees are also entitled to a full suite of welfare benefits commensurate with their appointed position, including social insurance, housing provident fund, healthcare coverage, and other standard allowances.
