State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices

The State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices (SKLLMD) was approved for construction in October, 2011 and began formal operation in 2013 upon passing the acceptance review by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The reorganization of SKLLMD was approved by the Ministry in January, 2025.

Oriented toward national strategic needs in new light-emitting and display technologies, SKLLMD focuses its research on five areas: optoelectronic material design and theory, luminescent materials and devices, display drive and integration, optoelectronic imaging and sensing, and advanced laser light sources.

SKLLMD has assembled a high-caliber, closely collaborative research team of 120 permanent staff. The laboratory has undertaken 17 major national key research projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with a total funding of 557 million yuan. It has yielded a number of significant achievements, including 2 second prizes of the National Natural Science Award and 2 second prizes of the National Technological Invention Award. Additionally, one of its achievements was selected as one of the "Top 10 Advances in Chinese Science" in 2012, five papers have been selected as "China's Top 100 Most Influential International Academic Papers", and five papers were published in Nature between 2022 and 2025.
