
The National Engineering Technology Research Center for Mobile Ultrasonic Detection (hereinafter "the Center"), in the field of new-generation information technology, was established in 2013 with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It integrates and upgrades three predecessor institutions: the Guangzhou Integrated Circuit Design and Training Center (founded in 2003), the Ministry of Education Engineering Center for Near-Field Wireless Communication and Networking (founded in 2008), and the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Short-Range Wireless Detection and Communication (founded in 2009).
Oriented to the national strategies including Smart Oceans, Healthy China, Rural Revitalization, etc., the Center has systematically researched on the related technologies of the whole industry chain of mobile ultrasonic detection for more than twenty years. The Center has pioneered a "Device-Edge-Internet-Cloud" architecture for mobile ultrasonic detection systems, which enables 24/7 ultrasonic detection for various targets in mobile environments and uploading the data to the cloud wirelessly, so as to facilitate the integration with the data obtained by other detection means (such as optics, radar, etc.), and realize monitoring of the detection target covering entire spatial domain, entire temporal domain, multi-dimensions, multi-granularities, and high-precision. Using artificial intelligence technologies, large-scale and multi-modal collaborative analysis technology for detection targets can be constructed to meet the needs of different application scenarios.

The key research directions of the Center include: (1) Design and manufacturing technologies of wireless digital ultrasonic devices and chips; (2) Ultrasonic big data intelligent processing cloud platform; (3) Ultrasonic wireless integrated sensing and communication network and its applications.
The Center has 177 long-term staff members, including 118 PhD holders and 30 senior experts. It operates under the leadership of South China University of Technology with a high degree of autonomy and implements a director responsibility system. It comprises five departments: Devices and Chips, AI and Big Data, Engineering Technology, Application Systems, and Industrial Collaboration, where the Industrial Collaboration Department operates on a corporate schedule to support industrial technology engineering processes.
