On May 24, the 2026 BWF Malaysia Masters Super 500 was held in Kuala Lumpur. The Chinese national badminton team excelled, winning men's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles, and finishing runner-up in women's singles. Notably, two current students from South China University of Technology (SCUT) contributed to China's title wins.

Luo Xumin, a 2025 SCUT master's student in Physical Education, partnered with Chen Fanshutian to win the women's doubles title at the Malaysia Masters. In the final, the pair defeated the experienced Japanese duo of Sayaka Hirota and Ayako Sakuramoto 21–16, 25–23 in straight games, claiming their first career Super 500 title on their first international meeting.

Meanwhile, Gao Jiaxuan, a 2024 SCUT undergraduate in Sports Training, teamed up with Wei Yaxin to win the mixed doubles final. After taking the first game 21–13, they dropped the second 21–15, but bounced back in the decider with a tactical adjustment and faster transitions, dominating 21–11 to claim a 2–1 victory over a strong Thai pair.

The Malaysia Masters, as a BWF premier tournament, features intense competition. The two SCUT students' championship performances underscore their years of rigorous training and determination, highlighting both their competitive spirit and the University's excellence in developing elite athletes. Gao Jiaxuan will next represent China in the mixed doubles at the Super 750 Singapore Open in late May.
