The university ranked 162nd in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings—up 4 places year-on-year and 24th among universities in the Chinese mainland. It also placed 342nd globally in the QS World University Rankings, rising 35 places from the previous year and ranking 23rd among universities in the Chinese mainland.

The U.S. News Subject Rankings released during the same period showed that a total of 35 disciplines at the university made the list, an increase of 3 from previous years, placing it 24th among Chinese mainland universities in terms of the number of ranked disciplines. The university demonstrates clear strengths across its academic disciplines, with Polymer Science, Food Science and Technology, and Agricultural Sciences ranking among the top 10 worldwide. Additionally, SCUT has 16 disciplines ranked among the global top 50, including Condensed Matter Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Civil Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, highlighting its competitive strengths in engineering, materials science, energy, and environmental disciplines.

These ranking gains, along with its well-structured and high-quality disciplinary layout, reflect the university’s growingacademic discourse power and overseas educational influence, indicating a steady enhancement of its comprehensive competence in discipline development, research output, and international exchange.
