On July 9, the award ceremony for the 16th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during the general assemblies of the members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). CAE Member Qu Jinping of South China University of Technology (SCUT) was honored with the award.

Qu Jinping is a leading expert in China’s light industry equipment and control engineering. He previously served as Vice President of SCUT and currently heads several key platforms including the National Engineering Research Center of Novel Equipment for Polymer Processing. For many years, he has been dedicated to the green and low-carbon manufacturing of polymer materials and the intelligent control of manufacturing equipment. He pioneered the theory and technology of external-field-enhanced polymer manufacturing, providing key generic technologies for industries such as new energy and environmental protection, and helping drive China’s high-end manufacturing sector from a technology adopter into a global leader. He has received 2 Second Prizes of the State Technological Invention Award, 1 Second Prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 2 China Patent Gold Awards, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Innovation Award, and the National Award for Excellence in Innovation, among many other prestigious honors.

The Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award is one of China’s most prestigious honors in engineering technology and is widely regarded as the country’s highest award in this field. Presented every two years, the award recognizes Chinese engineers and scientists who have made outstanding achievements and significant contributions to engineering technology and management, to encourage continued innovation and excellence in engineering research, development, and application. Since its inception in 1996, the award has been presented 16 times, honoring a total of 423 engineering and technology experts.
