From July 23 to 24, Yang Zhongmin, President of South China University of Technology (SCUT), led a delegation to Hong Kong to further deepen cooperation in education, sci-tech innovation, and talent development across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

The delegation first visited the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR. Yang Zhongmin introduced SCUT’s efforts and achievements in contributing to the development of the Greater Bay Area and expanding industry-academia-research collaboration in Hong Kong, and proposed deeper collaboration in sci-tech innovation, talent cultivation, and industry cooperation. Sun Shangwu, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office, spoke highly of SCUT’s achievements in its cooperation with Hong Kong and expressed the hope that the university would contribute to Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology hub and support the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area.

Subsequently, Yang Zhongmin attended the 10th Anniversary Conference & University Presidents’ Forum of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance and delivered a keynote speech on industry-academia-research integration. He called for stronger cross-regional collaboration on innovation and improved mechanisms for translating research outcomes into practice. Representatives from the participating universities also reached consensus on resource sharing and collaborative talent cultivation.

During the visit, Yang Zhongmin met with senior alumni from the Classes of 1956 and 1957 and held a symposium with alumni representatives at the SCUT (HK) Alumni Home. He highlighted the bridging role of the alumni association and hoped that alumni would continue supporting SCUT’s Double First-Class development by leveraging their resources. The alumni said they would uphold the university motto and continue contributing to the coordinated development of their alma mater and the Greater Bay Area.
