SCUT has successfully concluded its 2026 undergraduate admissions. This year, the university admitted a total of 7,207 undergraduate students, including students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese communities, with the caliber of incoming students improving significantly. In more than 80% of provinces, admission rankings for physics-track applicants improved compared with last year, with improvements exceeding 1,000 places in 20% of provinces. In Guangdong Province, the minimum admission ranking for physics-track applicants improved by 1,129 places. Nearly 80% of provinces also saw improvements in history-track admission rankings, with Guangdong’s history-track ranking rising by 285 places. The major preference fulfillment rate increased significantly, and applications for the “631” comprehensive evaluation program surged by 5,273% year on year.

The improvement in the quality of incoming students reflects SCUT’s strong disciplinary development. Currently, three disciplines at SCUT rank among the top 0.01% globally in ESI, while 20 disciplines rank among the top 1%. The university has established interdisciplinary research platforms based on its four Double First-Class disciplines, and the Guangzhou International Campus has developed nine cutting-edge emerging engineering programs, further strengthening the university’s disciplinary competitiveness.

SCUT continues to advance integrated reforms in admissions, talent cultivation, and employment, focusing on cultivating “three-innovation” talents equipped with innovative, creative, and entrepreneurial capabilities. The university has optimized admission policies and introduced double-degree programs. Its top-tier talent cultivation platforms remain highly popular, with Baibuti Innovation College widely recognized by outstanding students. Admission rankings for the five major engineering experimental classes in Guangdong remained within the top 5,000, while the Qiji Class achieved a minimum admission ranking within the top 3,000. The newly established major in International Organizations and Global Governance attracted strong interest in its first year of enrollment. SCUT graduates continue to contribute significantly to the development of the Greater Bay Area, with alumni having founded or led more than 200 listed companies and large enterprises in the region.
